When to rotate a PDF

Scanned documents often come out sideways or upside down depending on how the page was fed through the scanner. Rotating fixes every page in the file at once, so the whole document reads the right way up. The preview updates as you click Rotate Left or Rotate Right, so you can check the orientation is correct before downloading — no guessing. If only one page in a multi-page document is turned the wrong way, this tool isn't the right fit since it rotates every page together; that's a rarer case best handled by re-scanning that single page.

How to use Rotate PDF

  1. Drop the PDF with the sideways or upside-down pages.
  2. Click Rotate Left or Rotate Right. The preview turns as you click, 90 degrees at a time.
  3. Keep clicking until the text reads the right way up. Two clicks turn the pages upside down to fix an inverted scan.
  4. Click Rotate PDF to download the corrected file.

Good to know before you start

  • This tool rotates every page together. To turn only one page, use Organize PDF, where each page has its own rotate button.
  • Rotation is in 90-degree steps. A page that was scanned slightly crooked can't be straightened here.
  • Password-protected PDFs need their password removed first.

Rotate PDF: frequently asked questions

Is the rotation permanent?

Yes. The new orientation is saved in the downloaded file, so it opens the right way up in any PDF viewer, not just in your current one.

Does rotating a PDF reduce its quality?

No. Rotation only changes how each page is turned. Text and images are not re-encoded.

How do I rotate a single page?

Open Organize PDF. Every page has its own rotate button there, so you can fix one sideways page without touching the rest.

Why does my PDF look fine on my phone but sideways on my computer?

Some apps auto-rotate pages for display without changing the file. Rotating here saves the correct orientation into the file itself, so it looks the same everywhere.
