Add Page Numbers

Add page numbers to every page of a PDF. Click a position on the grid and watch the marker move on your actual pages, so you always see exactly where the number will land before you download.

Picking a position and format

The 9-dot grid controls where the number sits on the page — click any dot and a red marker jumps to that spot on every page thumbnail below, so you can confirm it before downloading. Choose plain numbers ("1", "2"...), "Page 1", or "Page 1 of 12" from the format options. "First number" lets you start counting from something other than 1 — useful if this file is one chapter of a larger document. You can also number only part of the document by setting a page range; pages outside that range are shown dimmed in the preview and are left untouched.

How to use Add Page Numbers

  1. Drop your PDF. The pages appear as thumbnails with a marker showing where the number will go.
  2. Click one of the 9 positions on the grid, for example bottom-centre or top-right.
  3. Pick a format (1, Page 1, or Page 1 of 12), a text size and a margin. Set the first number if counting shouldn't start at 1.
  4. Optionally limit numbering to a page range, so a cover page stays unnumbered. Then click Add page numbers.

Good to know before you start

  • Numbers are added as plain black text. Fonts and colours can't be changed yet.
  • Numbers are drawn on top of the page. If a scan already has content near the edge you chose, the number can overlap it, so check the preview and increase the margin if needed.
  • Pages outside your chosen range are left untouched and are shown dimmed in the preview.

Add Page Numbers: frequently asked questions

How do I skip numbering on the cover page?

Set the page range to start at 2 and the first number to 1. The cover stays clean and the next page shows 1.

Can I continue numbering from another document?

Yes. If this file is chapter two and chapter one ended on page 40, set First number to 41.

What does Page 1 of 12 count?

The total is the number of pages in this file, so a 12-page PDF reads Page 1 of 12 through Page 12 of 12.

Can I remove the page numbers later?

The numbers become part of the downloaded pages. Keep your original file if you might want an unnumbered version later.
