When to convert images to PDF

Converting images to PDF is useful for turning phone photos of documents into a single shareable file, or assembling a set of scans into one PDF for printing or archiving. Each image becomes its own page, in the order you arrange them. For best results, use images that are already reasonably straight and well-lit — the tool converts format and layout, but does not correct image quality.

How to use Images to PDF

  1. Drop your JPG or PNG images, or click Browse files. On a phone you can pick them straight from your photo gallery.
  2. Reorder the images by dragging, or with the arrow buttons on a phone. Rotate any photo that was taken sideways.
  3. Choose orientation (auto, portrait or landscape) and page size: Fit to image, A4 or Letter. With A4 or Letter you can also pick a margin.
  4. Choose one combined PDF or one PDF per image, then click Create PDF.

Good to know before you start

  • The tool doesn't straighten, sharpen or brighten photos. Take photos flat-on in good light for the cleanest result, or use Scan to PDF to crop each photo first.
  • Large phone photos make large PDFs. If the result is too big to send, run it through Compress PDF.
  • One PDF per image comes back as a zip file, because browsers handle one download better than dozens.

Images to PDF: frequently asked questions

Which page size should I choose?

Fit to image makes each page exactly the size of its photo, which looks best on screen. Choose A4 or Letter if the PDF will be printed or submitted to a form that expects a standard paper size.

What does auto orientation do?

Auto makes each page portrait or landscape to match its image, so wide photos aren't squeezed onto tall pages. Choose portrait or landscape to force every page the same way.

Can I make one PDF from photos taken on my phone?

Yes. Select the photos from your gallery, put them in order and create one PDF. Nothing is uploaded, so personal photos stay on your phone.

Are my images compressed when they become a PDF?

Not deliberately. Images are placed on the pages close to their original quality, which is why a PDF of large photos can be large.
