Reading the comparison
Each page is compared as an image: anything that moved, changed, or was added or removed between File A and File B shows up highlighted in red, with the rest of the page dimmed for contrast. The percentage under each page is roughly how much of that page differs. If the two files have different page counts, only the pages that exist in both get compared, and the extra pages are called out separately. Download the diff report to save the highlighted images for pages that differ.
How to use Compare PDF
- Drop the original file as File A.
- Drop the changed version as File B.
- Each pair of pages is compared and differences are highlighted in red, with a percentage showing how much of the page changed.
- Click Download diff report to save the highlighted pages as images in a zip file.
Good to know before you start
- Pages are compared as images, pixel by pixel. Text that reflows can mark a whole paragraph as changed even if only one word was edited.
- If the files have different page counts, only matching page numbers are compared. Extra pages are listed separately.
- A page inserted near the start shifts every later page, so most pages will show differences.
Compare PDF: frequently asked questions
What does the percentage mean?
It's roughly how much of the page area differs between the two versions. A small number usually means a word or number changed; a large one means the layout moved.
Can I compare a scanned PDF with a digital one?
You can, but scans are never pixel-identical to the original, so expect differences across the whole page. It works best with two versions exported from the same source.
What is in the diff report?
One PNG image for each page that changed, with the differences marked in red. The file names include the page number and the percentage changed.
Are confidential contracts safe to compare here?
Yes. Both files are compared in your browser and neither is uploaded.
