When to merge PDFs

Merging is useful for combining scanned pages, assembling a report from separate sections, or packaging several documents into one file to send. Add files in the order you want them to appear — you can reorder individual pages before merging. The merged file keeps each page at its original size and orientation, so mixing portrait and landscape pages, or different page sizes, works without extra steps.

How to use Merge PDF

  1. Drop two or more PDFs onto the page, or click Browse files. You can also add a single PDF if you only want to reorder or rotate its pages.
  2. Every page appears as a thumbnail. Drag a page to move it, or use the up and down arrow buttons on a phone, where dragging isn't available.
  3. Rotate any sideways page with its rotate button, or remove a page you don't want in the final file.
  4. Click Merge files. The combined PDF downloads straight away, built on your device.

Good to know before you start

  • Password-protected PDFs can't be opened. Remove the password in the app that created the file, then merge it.
  • Every PDF is held in your device's memory while you work, so merging hundreds of large scans on an older phone can be slow. A desktop browser handles very large jobs best.
  • Form fields, bookmarks and the original table of contents may not carry over into the merged file. The visible pages always do.

Merge PDF: frequently asked questions

Can I merge pages from different PDFs in any order?

Yes. After you add the files, every page from every file sits in one grid, so you can put page 3 of the second file before page 1 of the first. The download follows the order you see on screen.

Does merging lower the quality of my pages?

No. Pages are copied into the new file as they are, without re-encoding images or text. If the merged file is too large to send, run it through Compress PDF afterward.

Can I mix portrait and landscape pages, or A4 and Letter?

Yes. Each page keeps its own size and orientation, so mixed documents merge without stretching or cropping.

Is there a limit on how many files I can merge?

There's no fixed limit. The practical ceiling is your device's memory. Dozens of normal documents are fine on most phones and laptops.
